Now that you have a general idea for a topic, the search begins.
In order to help you begin the true search follow the guidelines to create a list of keywords.
- Identify important concepts from your research question (look for nouns)
- Brainstorm some synonyms (to help you find more information)
- Keep track of useful terms you discover during research
The Key Words will help you find relevant information faster. Key Words can be used to search book indexes, online search engine search bars, and database searches.

General Topic: Theme found in Macbeth
Sentences: Why do people turn to manipulation as a way to control others?
Key Words: Synonyms:
Manipulation Exploitation, persuasion, influence
Control Rule, Dominate, Influence, power
