The philosophy of the Art Department is based on a holistic model of human development that includes visual arts literacy. Visual arts education is now understood as critical and necessary for success in a world that is making a paradigm shift to a global model requiring higher order thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and flexibility.  The ART curriculum is designed to help students to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for communication and self expression. The diversity of courses is intended to appeal to a broad cross section of the student body as well as to provide the opportunity for the serious art student to gain experience in many art forms.  Students are encouraged to take courses in a variety of areas to create a well-rounded artist who is able to express themselves through multiple forms.
